Falkirk Recovery was recently called out for a Vauxhall Corsa VXR recovery in Grangemouth after the vehicle required transporting to M.R. Vehicle Repairs for further inspection.
While recovering a Corsa would normally be relatively straightforward, this particular VXR presented an additional challenge — the vehicle sits very low to the ground, meaning extra care was needed during both loading and unloading.
To prevent the front bumper, splitter and underside of the vehicle from contacting the recovery bed, we used additional ramps to reduce the loading angle and increase clearance.
Specialist Recovery for a Low Corsa VXR
Low, modified and performance vehicles can require a different approach from a standard recovery.
As a tilt-and-slide recovery bed rises, the transition between the road, ramps and recovery bed can create clearance problems for vehicles with reduced ride height or long front overhangs.
Simply winching a very low vehicle onto the truck without considering these angles risks catching or damaging components such as the:
Front bumper and splitter
Side skirts
Exhaust system
Undertrays
Suspension components
Rear bumper
For this Corsa VXR, additional ramps were positioned to create a more gradual approach onto the recovery bed.
This raised the vehicle and reduced the angle sufficiently to allow us to carefully load the Corsa without the bodywork or underside making contact.
Carefully Loaded and Secured
Once the correct loading arrangement was established, the VXR was carefully brought onto our tilt-and-slide recovery truck.
Taking a little extra time at this stage is particularly important with lowered and performance vehicles. Our priority isn't simply getting the vehicle onto the truck — it's getting it loaded without creating additional damage in the process.
Once positioned correctly, the Corsa was securely restrained ready for the short journey through Grangemouth.
Transported to M.R. Vehicle Repairs for Inspection
With the Corsa safely loaded, we transported it to M.R. Vehicle Repairs in Grangemouth for further inspection and diagnosis.
The same precautions were taken when unloading.
Additional ramps were again used to create a shallower unloading angle, helping provide sufficient clearance between the Corsa's bodywork and the recovery bed as it returned to ground level.
The VXR was successfully unloaded and left with the garage ready for further investigation.
